  • Distillation Method: CO2  supercritical extraction
  • Country of Origin: India
  • Plant Part: Resin
  • Latin name: Boswellia serrata
  • Cultivation: Wildcrafted/organically grown
  • Note: Middle - Resinous Base

About the Extract:  The resin of Boswellia serrata contains high levels of the soothing compound beta elemene. These compounds have been found to enhance overall comfort and ease in our bodies and joints, as well as for the health and beauty of our skin. The carterii variety is typically used for medicinal purposes while the Serrata, possessing the same beneficial qualities, is not as strong and has a softer, more floral-driven aroma.

Aroma: Uplifting, woody-citrusy, crisp, and refreshing.

Chemistry: Our supplier indicates 70 - 90 % essential oil with monoterpenes (40 - 60 % alpha-thujene, 3 - 15 % alpha-pinene, sabinene, myrcene, p-cymene, limonene, etc.), sesquiterpenes, diterpene alcohols (incensole and serratol), and traces of boswellic acids.

About CO2 Extracts: COextracts from herbs, spices, and natural plants, can be used as bioactive ingredients, fragrances, and flavors in a highly concentrated form to enhance cosmetics, perfumes, and food products.

Note: CO2 extracts generally include some larger molecules compared to their steam-distilled counterparts. Some may not be suitable for use in a nebulizing diffuser (unless blended with a thinner oil) – though most will be just fine in an ‘ultrasonic’ unit.

The 'CO2' supercritical distillation means the resin was never boiled at high temperatures to extract the oil. Instead, it was immersed in liquid carbon dioxide which then simply evaporates when the process is complete. The CO2 process results in a more chemically-complex oil.
